bodies & homelands
Inspired by her late setsuné’s (grandmother) incredible talent of garment making and adornment, But there’s no scar?II speaks to the complexities of history and identity through a narrative framework that utilizes both historical and non-historical materials to create a wearable beaded bruise. Blackburn explores how the act of adornment-as a labour of love- becomes beaded armour for the wearer by both protecting and transfiguring grief, trauma and loss into celebration, empowerment and resurgence.
